Free Pumpkin Trebuchet Blueprints

An interesting alternative to reduce the amount of CO 2 emitted into the atmosphere by the use of buildings is to employ the so-called plant facades or facades green.

The design of this type of facade integrated the use of plants as an outer skin of buildings.

The vegetation has a number of caacterĂsticas for improving the performance of buildings and improve environmental conditions around them due to the following reasons:

  • cool the surrounding environment, the plants lose water to the middle evapotranspiration by using this process heat from the surrounding air, thereby cooling and humidifying the air.

  • Improved air quality due to the effect of photosynthesis by absorbing CO 2 and generating new oxygen .
  • Reduction of pollution from the effect of the fixation of heavy metals like lead, cadmium or other particles which are suspended in the air. These particles are attached to the substrate or soil maintain this vegetation being metabolized by fungi and bacteria. Ventilation
  • natural, as a result of temperature differences in their environment that generates natural airflow.
  • Protection from wind. Protections
  • solar and thermal insulation, the vegetation blocks, filters and reflects solar radiation.
Among the many types of plants facades are the vines and creepers on the walls to reduce heat transfer by conduction and radiation, to avoid the impact of direct solar radiation and decreasing temperature air adjacent to the wall.

Some interesting cases the use of deciduous plants that ensure protection against solar radiation in summer allowing the passage of solar radiation in winter.

There are different types of building systems for facades plant. The highlights are:
  • based systems modular panels, whether aluminum, stainless steel or other materials, serve as substrate for vegetation. Irrigation systems can be incorporated.
  • concrete plant, concrete pores serve as substrate for vegetation. Wetted with a sprinkler system pipes and views.

  • based systems climbing plants on trellises that can be used to support the growth and establishment of plants.

There are currently several research projects whose aim of obtaining theoretical models and the quantification of the improvements provided by this type of facade.

Over the next few years will see an increasing use of vegetable facades as they are an excellent alternative for a more ecological and sustainable architecture.
